Coaches are such an important part of our teams. Some people choose to coach to help out their child’s team, others see it as a way of giving back to the club. Whatever your reason, know that we’ll provide you with the support and resources you need to guide your team to success.
Requirements
- Understand your requirements as coach as noted in the Position Description document on the Committee page
- Netball Victoria Membership (NVM): All coaches need to have current NVM. If you don’t currently have NVM as part of a team you are playing for, then the club will pay this fee for you.
- You may require a Working With Children’s Certificate. Check the http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au web site to see if you may be exempt (ie under 18yo, parent of player, etc). Email the club with your Working With Children’s certificate number if you have one.
- Coaches must be a minimum of 16 years of age. Younger coaches are permitted as assistant coaches if the main coach is over 16 yo. Ideally, pairing of an experienced coach, or parent of a player with younger coaches is recommended.
- All coaches must undertake the courses as outlined in the ‘Coaches Training Courses’ section below.

We require all our coaches to have formal training to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to be successful in their important role. The Netball Victoria web site has many online coaching courses, some are free of charge, others are not. Simply log in from the Netball Australia website (create a login if you’ve not logged in before and link to your Netball Victoria Membership number) and any of your previous completed courses will be displayed as well as other available courses you might like to consider doing under My Learning.
Please email the Club before you intend to register for a paid course we will reimburse you for the fees once you receive your Certificate of Completion.

- 1st Year of Coaching:
We ask that all coaches undertake the FOUNDATION course within the first season of coaching. This online course covers your role as coach, planning, teaching netball skills and coaches in action. Course duration varies from coach to coach. Netball Victoria advise that everyone must do this Foundation course prior to the Development course, there are no exceptions. If you hold an up-to-date Foundation accreditation, please email the Club with the completion date so we can update our records. ‘Rules of Netball Theory Exam’ in also included in this course. - Further Years of Coaching:
It is ideal to undertake the DEVELOPMENT Accreditation Coaching Course if you continue coaching after the first year or if you are coaching a senior team at BSNC.The Online course focuses on skill progression and fault detection and correction and contains a Face-to-Face component to achieve this accreditation.
All formal Netball Australia coaching accreditation is reimbursed by the Club once you receive your Certificate of Completion.
